Perdido

In Perdido, Carolina Casusol rethinks the transcultural biography of the Latinx community established in New Orleans. As a foundation for this project, Casusol developed a drawing of a local street sign in New Orleans named Perdido – literally “lost” in English. Casusol imagines the sign as a secret beacon for others in the Latinx community who are privy to its irony. To connect with community members’ stories and backgrounds, and give them a means to communicate, Casusol established an archive through the Instagram account @nola.latinx.narratives_,  where she invites the community to share their family photos. Casusol reached out to the Latinx community in New Orleans with posters of her Perdido drawing, inviting contributions to the “Nola Latinx Narrative” archive in order to create a local narrative of migration and resilience.
