The Imminent Arrival
Rehab El Sadek
Transient
Transient continues artist Rehab El Sadek’s exploration into issues related to immigration, belonging, and displacement. An ongoing, immersive sound/sculpture project staged in intimate locations, Transient investigates what it means to feel (or not feel) a sense of belonging in relation to space due to ethnicity or the language one speaks. The work includes multi-lingual audio testimonials from immigrants sharing stories of their struggles with losing and trying to create a home. Visitors are invited to add personal reflections on where they feel most at home. Transient is a meditation on residential spaces, our relationship to them and to each other. Who “belongs” in a particular place? What does it take to feel welcome somewhere new? What if it doesn’t happen?
