“As an immigrant, I know that hope is luring, longing is recurring, and loneliness is scary. While dealing with longing and craving for emotional comfort, my art becomes about that place in the time of forgetting everything,” Buket Savci comments on this series of paintings from 2018-2019. As Savci questioned what kept her going and what brings her joy, she created work void of negativity. Painting in vivid colors with details of textiles and patterns, Savci has orchestrated scenarios of love and freedom where figures are entangled with each other, safe from threats outside of their confinement. These works capture happiness through body language while serving as a critique of consumer culture with subtle references to global social and environmental issues.
