FLUENCY

FLUENCY is presented in the style of a visual language learning device. The artist uses contrasting voices to create confusion when text and pronounced words are rendered in two different languages. Born in Ecuador to Chinese parents, the artist references the languages spoken at her home in Ecuador (Spanish, Chinese, and English) to express the humorous, entangled and chaotic linguistic situation of her upbringing, and her own experience with language learning, language acquisition, and language loss.
